Special Olympics Bermuda athlete Solay Thomas will represent the island at the inaugural Special Olympics North America [SONA] Athlete Congress in March next year.

Thomas will be among 27 athletes from Canada, the Caribbean and the United States attending the event from March 8 to 13 at the Special Olympics Michigan headquarters to discuss topics affecting athletes across the region.

“We look forward to the positive impact your contributions will make, not only for your local peers but for all athletes worldwide!” read a Special Olympics Bermuda social media post.

A Special Olympics press release read: “The objective of the SONA Athlete Congress is to gather information on issues that impact local programming, train participants in personal and professional development skills, as well as the necessary problem-solving skills.”

Thomas won a bronze medal in the women’s shot put at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin in 2023.
