International privacy strategist Samantha Simms has endorsed Bermuda College’s new Compliance Academy, which launches Wednesday [Sept 24] in partnership with the Association of Bermuda Compliance Officers [ABCO].

A spokesperson said, “International privacy strategist Samantha Simms has thrown her support behind Bermuda College’s new Compliance Academy.

“The Academy launches on Wednesday [September 24] in partnership with the Association of Bermuda Compliance Officers [ABCO], addressing the growing demand for education in compliance, governance, risk, and privacy.

“Ms. Simms said the Academy was a vital resource for the island’s professionals in the wake of PIPA’s full implementation.

“Ms. Simms, who addressed the recent Bermuda Compliance Professionals Conference, said the programme fills a critical training gap for local privacy officers and compliance leaders.”

“Bermuda needs its own solutions,” she said. “PIPA is now in effect, and the demand for trained privacy professionals has never been higher.

“This Academy delivers not only the legal knowledge but also the communication and leadership skills needed to apply it with confidence.”

The spokesperson said, “Ms. Simms, an attorney and strategist, is globally recognised for her work in digital compliance, AI governance, and data privacy.

“Through her How to DPO Like a Boss coaching platform, she has helped privacy professionals to navigate careers in data privacy. At The Information Collective, her team advises organisations worldwide on navigating complex regulatory environments while promoting ethical technology use.”

“This Academy is a game-changer for the island,” she added. “By focusing on practical strategies and influence, it empowers professionals to lead compliance efforts, protect personal information, and strengthen Bermuda’s reputation as a well-regulated financial and innovation hub.”

The spokesperson said, “The course is designed for privacy officers, compliance professionals, HR leaders, IT managers, and senior executives across sectors such as finance, insurance, healthcare, and technology.

“It will be delivered virtually through Bermuda College’s Division of Professional & Career Education [APACE], allowing flexibility for working professionals.”

Tawana Flood, Director of APACE, said: “This programme is timely, relevant, and actionable. It supports individuals and organisations in meeting their legal obligations while fostering a culture of trust and accountability.”

Bermuda College President Dr. David Sam added: “Our Compliance Academy is a direct response to national priorities. By partnering with experts like Samantha Simms, we ensure that our offerings reflect global best practices, adapted for Bermuda’s needs.”
