Congratulations in getting an arrest in 2 cases by one suspect
Bermuda police are a big joke!!only thing they are good for is to catch speeders thats it!!
And if you’ve been watching the roads for like the last 10 years you can see they fail miserably at that too.
“Bermuda police are a big joke!!only thing they are good for is to catch speeders thats it!!”
Gerald, I have two comments to make in reply.
First, ask yourself why the “Bermuda police are a big joke”. For two decades now the Bermuda Police Service has been chronically underfunded and under resourced. Times have changed, but the Bermuda Police Service is having a hard time keeping up. One might be forgiven for thinking that the chronic underfunding is intentional to keep the Bermuda Police Service from doing certain things.
Second, the Bermuda Police Service is useless at catching speeders or any other motorist. For more than two decades now the Bermuda Police Service has failed to enforce traffic suggestions (they can no longer honestly be called “laws”). That has given the general public the confidence to ignore speed limits, “Stop” signs and traffic lights.
Joe, ask the incumbent and useless government why? The PLP only want to spend money on wasteland overseas trips which brings what to Bermuda going forward, absolutely nothing.
Wasted I meant
The last time I asked a question of the PLP I was threatened with bodily harm and removed from the premises. It is not safe to ask such questions.
It is always prudent to video record such things for a potential lawsuit.
“For two decades now the Bermuda Police Service has been chronically underfunded and under resourced.” That whale don’t swim. BPS is overfunded and overstaffed for the size of our population. BPS also has a Reserve unit to call on.
2.3 officers per 1,000 residents (defundpolice)
In the United States, the average number of police officers per capita varies by city size. For a city with a population of 65,000, the average is approximately 2.3 officers per 1,000 residents. This means that a city of 65,000 would typically have around 159 officers if this average is applied.
Feel free to correct these numbers from Wiki and recalculate the percentages: The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has between 450 and 500 sworn officers.
450/159 = 283% larger than average
500/159 = 344% larger than average
Say 400 is closer to the actual number; 400/159 = 252% larger than average
These percentages do not take into account the Reserve.
The issues at hand are overstaffing, over budget, poor resource scheduling & utilization. BPS “management” lacks the basic skills to manage a budget and resources. BPS is clearly way over-bloated by the metrics.
