Zhen Swan Knights Bermuda Sept 2025Teenager Zhen Swan Knights is being recognized for her “Pouches of Love” project.

A spokesperson said, “While chatting with her teacher in a Math Session recently, discussing the importance of service to mankind, and exploring how Rotary has changed the lives of so many globally, 13-year-old Zhen Swan Knights came up with the idea of creating her very own service project helping less fortunate women in the community.

“Although she was preparing to join her family in the UK over the summer, and unable to join a Rotary Interact Youth Club because of timing, she pledged to complete her own service project which could, perhaps, be duplicated by others to inspire, encourage and meet the needs of so many locally and globally.

“Her vision was to provide toiletries and a surprise gift to women who could benefit from a special treat and a touch of love.

“She designed 12 Pouches of love which were presented on Friday 12th September to Social Worker of the Beresford Swan Dialysis Centre at the King Edward Memorial Hospital.

“Ms. Beverley Trott, Dialysis Social Worker, and Zhen’s Grandmother, Mrs. Sherrie Swan, who is lovingly known by her grands as ‘Mèmè, in honour of her late son, Trey, who studied in France, were at the Dialysis unit to present and receive the pouches of love.

“They each contained toiletries, carefully wrapped and selected by Zhen and a $50 food voucher for each designated female patient at the Beresford Swan Dialysis Unit.

“The funds used to purchase the items were earned over the summer and after school at Zhen’s workplace where she packed groceries, giving service with a smile.

“Her teacher, Past Rotary President, Cathy Bassett, will be saluting her at a Rotary meeting upon Zhen’s return to the island for her act of kindness.

“Her Service Project will be shared with Teen Services and District 7230 Rotary Governor, Garrett Capobianco in New York.

“Although not quite a Rotary Youth member, Zhen is deserving of becoming an Honorary Rotary Youth Advocate as she continues to make global change embracing the Rotary aim… to serve above self. She and her parents will be introduced to Rotary Youth Interact Clubs in her area in the U.K.

“Zhen has proven that one Act of Kindness can enhance the lives of others.”
