BELCO Restore Power To 17,000 Customers
BELCO has restored power to more than 17,000 customers since Hurricane Imelda, with approximately 600 customers remaining without power as of this afternoon,
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] crews continue restoration efforts following the damage caused by Hurricane Imelda.
“Since the storm peaked with approximately 18,000 customer outages, crews have successfully restored power to more than 17,000 customers in a 24 hour period. As of this afternoon, approximately 600 customers remain without service.
"Restoration work is progressing steadily, though crews are facing challenging conditions. Extensive vegetation overgrowth across the island requires teams to trim back trees and branches before they can safely access equipment and begin repairs. The dispersed nature of the remaining outages means that individual repair jobs may restore power to only a handful of customers at a time, which extends the overall restoration timeline."
"Our crews are working diligently to restore every remaining customer as quickly and safely as possible," said BELCO Managing Director Shelly Leaman. "We appreciate the public's continued patience as we work through these final, more complex repairs."
A spokesperson added, "Customers should be aware that temporary outages may occur during the restoration process as crews de-energize circuits to safely effect repairs. As a result, outage numbers will fluctuate throughout this process."
