BILTIR Announces 2025–27 Board Leadership

The Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers [BILTIR] has announced its Board leadership for the 2025–2027 term.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers [BILTIR] today confirmed the election of its Chair and Vice Chair and announced the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors for the 2025–2027 term.

“Natasha Scotland Courcy, CEO and General Counsel of Athene Life Re, has been re-elected as Chair of the Board, while Jamie Schmerer, Head of Enterprise Risk Management at Fortitude Re, has been elected Vice Chair. Joining the Board are Danish Iqbal, Chief Executive Officer of Somerset Re; Tibor R. Leeuwenburgh, Country Executive for Aegon Bermuda; and Joseph Barrowclough, Chief Financial Officer of Gibraltar Reinsurance Company Ltd. and Lotus Reinsurance Company Ltd.”

    IWall Street an article noting the quality and amount of capital reserves required in Bermuda compared to the Cayman. It appears the Caymen requires less and this has caused some financial issues with US insurers (especially in the annuity business) who reinsure risks through offshore jurisdictions.
    Bermuda’s higher capital reserves requirements were considered obviously safer.

    I commend our Premier David Burt for his top role as also Minister of Finance for assuring our reputation as a respected place for finance especially in reinsurance.
