DeSilva-Andrade And Hayward Compete In Cali
Yushae DeSilva-Andrade and Omar Hayward are representing the island at the Cali 2025 World Boccia Americas Regional Championships.
A spokesperson said, “Boccia Bermuda is thrilled to share that Paralympian Yushae DeSilva-Andrade and Para-Athlete Omar Hayward are currently competing in the Cali 2025 World Boccia Americas Regional Championships. The team also includes Coach Larry Hunt, along with Court Assistants Alshante Andrade and Bridget Hayward.”
A representative commented, “The team had a full day of practice on the competition courts prior to their matches and enjoyed the opening ceremonies, where athletes from over ten countries are set to compete.”
A spokesperson added, “Omar Hayward fought valiantly in his first match but ultimately lost 1-10 to Eduardo Reyes from Mexico in the BC1 Male category earlier this week.
“In a thrilling second match yesterday, Omar displayed remarkable determination as Peru’s Roly Castro Nunez clinched victory with a score of 2-7.
“Coach Larry Hunt expressed admiration for both Omar and Yushae’s resilience, noting that they demonstrated great tenacity while facing some of the world’s top competitors and he believes they will do well during the remaining of their matches.
“Yushae faced a tough challenge in her first BC1 Female match, which was highly competitive and saw the score tied until the final throw. In the end, her opponent, Brazil’s Andreza Oliveira, secured an additional three points, winning the match at 2-5.”
Reflecting on her match, DeSilva-Andrade stated, “It was a fantastic game, and Coach Larry and I are very pleased with my performance. I was able to implement several strategies we practiced. I’m eagerly looking forward to my next match on Thursday.”
A spokesperson added, “Her final match is scheduled for October 10th at 2:45 PM Bermuda time.”
