Landlord & Tenant Bill Virtual Forum On Oct 29
The Ministry of Home Affairs will host a virtual forum on Wednesday, October 29, at 6.30pm to invite public feedback on the Draft Landlord and Tenant Bill 2025.
A Government spokesperson said, “This forum is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to make Bermuda more affordable and sustainable for all.
“The consultation is a key milestone of the Affordable Bermuda Agenda, the roadmap recently announced by the Ministry to address the cost of living. Landlord and Tenant Act reform seeks to advance a framework that introduces standardized leases, security deposit reform, clearer rights, and faster dispute resolution.
“The Draft Bill proposes to repeal and replace the Landlord and Tenant Act 1974 and Rent Increases [Domestic Premises] Control Act 1978, with a single, modern framework designed to govern the landlord and tenant relationship.
“To access the Virtual Draft Landlord Tenant Bill consultative forum and to ask questions, please use the link Virtual Draft Landlord Tenant Bill Consultative Meeting on the day of the forum.
“The meeting will also be live streamed on the Government’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, and CITV.
“This is an opportunity for residents, landlords, tenants, and industry professionals to have their say on legislation that directly impacts our quality of life.
“Following the consultation, all feedback will be reviewed, and final legislative recommendations will be presented to policymakers, with ongoing engagement to ensure the reforms reflect the needs and aspirations of all Bermudians.
“Members of the public are encouraged to:
- Submit questions ahead of the feedback forum to MHAHQ@gov.bm.
- Share their views online at www.forum.gov.bm
- Visit costofliving.gov.bm to learn more about how government is addressing the high cost of living.
“The consultation period on the Draft Bill closes on October 31, 2025.”

Well now, this sure has generated alot of interest.
Shows how much faith anyone has in the Government to take what people have to say seriously.
“Landlord and Tenant Act reform seeks to advance a framework that introduces standardized leases …”
So much for freedom of contract.
What more low-cost house that rich people buy up and then rent to the people they were intended for higher prices. Thanks but no.
Govt needs to limit the number of properties to two to any individual. Bermudians have a right to shelter. The crazy prices in our home are due to greed. If you have wealth, go invest it on the stock market. One Car per assessment number 2 houses maximum per person. No putting it in trusts for the benefit of other people or entities either. This is our home not just your.
Stop voting PLP as it is their elite that is holding the properties, otherwise they would have put controls in place that benefit all Bermudians, not just the few Elite.
“The crazy prices in our home are due to greed.”
No matter what excuses or reasons they give this is what it’s all about. And it’s all Bermudians in charge of this , they need to stop blaming IB .
No, The cost of rents is due to many things, the bulk of them being all of the overheads to cover those costs.
The largest cost is government taxes which are part of every overhead.
There is maintenance and repairs from damage by tenants, legal costs caused by bad tenants, lost rent from tenants in arrears, lost rent while property is being restored to good condition between tenants, insurance, land tax, grass cutting, painting, roof, administration costs, all kinds of things that go into the cost of rents.
The net return on money invested is not good at all. Better to invest in stocks and not have to deal with all of the hassle.
What’s the point of this when none of these government agencies, departments, quangos, etc. do anything to actually enforce any laws? The laws are always in favor of those in power. AirBnBs in Bermuda need to be more tightly regulated. There are far too many on the market because it’s a higher profit margin for owners while Bermudians struggle to find affordable housing. THE GREED of this country is why everyone is fleeing, why the population is ageing and the birth rate is so low. We the people have had enough!
“What’s the point of this”
It gives the appearance of the PLP Government doing something that supports average Bermudians.
Well you support “freedom of contract” so really, are you any better? I imagine your ancestors opposed emancipation too. Do me a favor and don’t respond to my comments with your nonsense.
