Bermuda have claimed eight medals in the pre-World Cup Pickleball Tournament at The Fort, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The island’s team won three gold, three silver and two bronze.

Wenda Roberts claimed double gold in the 3.5 women’s singles division, triumphing in the 50-plus and the 65-plus age group.

Roberts faced team-mate Samantha Todd in the 50-plus singles final.

Meanwhile, local players swept the podium in the 65-plus women’s singles event, with Roberts winning her second gold, Sue Chiappa securing silver, and Sarah Fox claiming bronze.

In the mixed doubles, Tom Mills and Melisa Judd secured gold in the 35-plus 4.5, while Tori Powell and Courtland Boyle claimed silver in the 50-plus 4.0.

Bermuda, the reigning Caribbean champions, have sent 17 players, plus a non-playing captain and coach, to the World Cup, which runs until November 2 [Sunday].

More than 60 nations are competing in the second World Cup. Bermuda have been drawn in a group with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Bosnia, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stage.
