The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] held its Annual General Conference opening night on Wednesday [Oct 22] under the theme “Leading for the Next Generation.” A spokesperson previously said, “The Annual Delegates Conference is a cornerstone of our party’s democratic tradition, providing an opportunity for members, delegates, and supporters from across the island to come together to reflect, reconnect, and recommit to our shared vision for a fairer, more just Bermuda.”

  1. Best wishes says:

    We look forward to success.

  2. Mr. Apathy says:

“Leading for the Next Generation”… yeah, right.

Based on the photos, it seems like “Convening of the Dinosaurs for the Next Election Cycle” would be more fitting.

    • Sara says:

Exactly, Bermuda’s largest population and voter base are seniors. This is why the youth feel disenfranchised with government. The cater to seniors and ignore the youth.

      • Watching says:

That’s not exactly true. While young folks may not attend these functions in abundance, they are certainly welcome to attend.
Additionally as government the PLP is doing much to include the younger demographic but governance is for all and we cannot disregard the seniors as well.

        • Mr. Apathy says:

You’re quick to defend the party and completely miss the point in equal measure. What you say is representative of the issue at large. All talk and no substance.

Young people don’t attend because their interests aren’t represented.

You praise the government for doing “much” to include the younger demographic, yet conveniently forget this same government, outside of talking about engaging youth has called 2 elections at times when Bermuda’s younger demographic is largely absent from the island. Not to mention they have not enacted absentee voting legislation to capture more of the youth vote; effectively silencing their voices and hindering their ability to engage in the democratic process.

Why? Because it’s politically disadvantageous for the PLP to do so.

The actions (or inactions) speak far louder than the hollow propaganda of including the youth that you seem to have been duped by.

  3. Rose Ann says:

It was open to the public So, why wasn’t your in a seat so that we can see that your interested in doing something instead of lip service only.
