Somersfield Fun Run Celebrates Community
Somersfield Academy recently hosted its 2025 5K Fun Run and Walk, bringing together more than 200 participants in a community celebration of fitness, school spirit, and student leadership.
A spokesperson said, “Somersfield Academy’s 2025 5K Fun Run and Walk was a celebration of fitness, school spirit, and above all, the power of community. With strong volunteer leadership and student engagement, this year’s event reflected the growth within the school, particularly the contributions of Somersfield’s eight scholars, who played a central role in the success of the day.
Scholars Leading the Way
“Somersfield’s Equity and Merit Scholars demonstrated that leadership is about more than academics. The scholars stepped forward to support the Fun Run, embodying the school’s values of service and community engagement.
“Among them, Roman Jones, one of Somersfield’s standout scholars, inspired younger students by serving as the “rabbit” in the Montessori Children’s House and primary races. His presence gave the youngest runners a role model to chase, energising the event with excitement and determination.
Volunteers at the Heart
“The Fun Run was powered by 32 volunteers, guided by Race Directors Vivienne Lochhead and David Lunn, along with Volunteer Coordinator Jo-Rena Davis. Lochhead, a longtime Somersfield parent, running club coach, national-level triathlete, and Group EM Reinsurance Manager at Lancashire Insurance Group, brought both professional expertise and athletic passion to her role.”
“It was awesome to see so many kids competing, smiling, and hopefully beginning a lifelong passion for running,” Lochhead said.
Head of School, Riki Teteina, reflected on the event and Somersfield’s trajectory: “The Fun Run is an example of how Somersfield is growing — not just in numbers, but in strength of community. As we approach the conclusion of our 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, it is inspiring to see our scholars leading, our parents and alumni sharing their expertise. This momentum affirms that we are building something truly special together, and the future of Somersfield is incredibly exciting.”
A spokesperson added, “By the Numbers
- 219 runners participated
- 24 race categories showcased all ages and abilities
- 72 new medals awarded, thanks to an anonymous donor family
- 32 volunteers dedicated their time and skills
“This year’s Fun Run demonstrated how Somersfield’s growth is being matched by the leadership of its students and the dedication of its community. With scholars setting the pace, parents lending their expertise, and volunteers giving their time, the event embodied the values that make Somersfield unique: service, resilience, and joy in learning together.”
