Detective Superintendent [acting], Derricka Burns, the officer in charge of the Serious Crime Unit, explained, “SIO training is specialised professional development for police officers who lead serious and complex investigations, such as murder, major crime, and other high-risk or high-profile cases. The nine day course culminated in a practical interactive exercise where the participants could test their training in a safe learning environment.”

“This specialised training increases the number of SIOs available to the BPS, thereby enhancing the investigative capability of the organisation.”

A police spokesperson added, “The course was delivered to a mixed cadre of sixteen officers, ranging in rank from Sergeant to Acting Superintendent and included two officers from the Royal Anguilla Police Service.

“As part of the training, the consultants also facilitated inputs from local staff on topics such as forensics, digital forensics, gangs, and the role of the firearms tactical advisor.

“In addition, the consultants delivered a one-day SIO refresher training for established SIOs. Both courses were delivered in line with national best practice and College of Policing current guidance by two experienced and qualified crime trainers.”
