Black Pony Gallery Artists At SCOPE In Miami
Black Pony Gallery will be taking part in the SCOPE Art Show, booth C21, during the Miami Art Week, from December 2-7, 2025.
A spokesperson said, “SCOPE Art Show is the premier showcase for contemporary art, convening the most dynamic emerging galleries and artists from around the world for more than two decades. SCOPE is located in a bespoke pavilion on the sands of Miami Beach.”
Charles Zuill and Jason Bennett
“We are honored to be included in SCOPE’s 24th edition. Although this is the second time that Black Pony Gallery will be presenting Atlantic Caribbean artists in the Miami Art Week, this our first time to have our own gallery booth at SCOPE,” said Lisa Howie, founding director of Black Pony Gallery.
The spokesperson said, “Black Pony Gallery is presenting two artists from two islands: Charles Zuill [b. 1935, Bermuda] and Jason Bennett [b. 1974, The Bahamas].
“Both artists explore abstract expression using different medium, silver point drawings and mixed media on paper or canvas. While the Caribbean Atlantic evokes images of idyllic, lush settings, these artists discard island tropes in favour of experimentation, redefining the surface as a space for new languages of contemporary expression.

“Following the success of his recent solo exhibition at Masterworks Museum of Art, Zuill [who turns 90 next month] presents a recent series of silverpoint drawings that are active and rather sculptural. Bennett, who is in mid-career exploration, addresses themes of contemporary society using collage with acrylic, graphite, spray paint, pastel and ink, building up the surface then sanding it down to build it up again. Both artists create artworks that encourage close looking.
“The theme for SCOPE this year is Be Here Now, a call for presence, attention, and dialogue. When attention is currency and distraction is the norm, SCOPE offers a dimensional experience for art-lovers to show up, fully, now.

Artist bios:
Charles Zuill – Bermudian, born 1935
“Charles Zuill grew up on a dairy farm in Bermuda and this is where his love of nature and science developed. He approaches art as a scientific process of experimentation. He holds a BA in Fine Art from Atlantic Union College, an MFA in painting and printmaking from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Critical Studies from New York University. In addition, he studied drawing and painting at The Byam Shaw School of Art, London, drawing and sculpture at The Heatherley School of Fine Art, London, and conducted research at the Bauhaus Archive. His influences include Paul Klee and Josef Albers, amongst others.
“Zuill’s artwork has been included in almost every Bermuda Biennial since 1994, he has had numerous solo and group exhibitions on Island and overseas, and his artwork can be found in the permanent collections of Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art and Bermuda National Gallery. Zuill has devoted his passion to nurturing the local arts scene, teaching at Bermuda College, writing decades of art criticisms, while playing a foundational role in the Bermuda Society of Arts, the Bermuda Arts Council, and Bermuda National Gallery, institutions that continue to benefit from his dedication. Generations of Bermudian artists have benefitted from his mentorship and vision.
Jason A Bennett – Bahamian, born 1974
“Jason Bennett is a multi-media artist renowned for his paintings and mixed-media collages that describe landscapes and journeys. Meandering lines indicate topography and repetition, while floral outlines suggest but do not illustrate intimate places and spaces. The result is a body of work that is not self-conscious about describing a specific location or time but is concerned with shaping new geographies.
“Bennett pursued visual art, first at the College of The Bahamas in 1995 and then, in 1996, at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Initially interested in graphic design, he soon switched to Fine Art, finding the process of painting free of rigid formality, and graduated in 1998 with his BFA in Fine Art.
“Soon after graduating, he was offered a position with an American Zoological Association award-winning company in construction in the Bronx, NYC, where he developed an affinity for artistic concrete construction. Jobs followed in Portland, Oregon, and led to a position at their head office in Seattle, Washington, offering creative support and supervision.
“Jason continued to develop his creative process. He exhibited extensively in The Bahamas at the Pro Gallery at the College of The Bahamas, the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, and the Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery. With his abstract style, the artist joined a small group of contemporary artists at Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts, working to push the boundaries of modern Bahamian art practice. His work placed Bennett squarely in the revolutionary discourse of contemporary Bahamian art.
“In 2011, Bennett relocated his family to Seattle, Washington, where he currently lives and maintains his art studio.”
