Geraldine Smith was recently recognised by the Bermuda Police Service [BPS] for her work as a Liaison Diversion Officer.

A police spokesperson said, “Ms. Geraldine Smith was recently recognised by the Bermuda Police Service [BPS] for her work as Liaison Diversion Officer [LDO], providing services to the Magistrates’ Court, the Department of Court Services as well as the BPS.

“The LDO provides psychiatric support to persons with mental health challenges, and also advises authorities where a diversion from the justice system for mental health treatment is appropriate.”

Reflecting on Ms. Smith’s work with the BPS, Mr. Darrin Simons, Commissioner of Police, stated: “Your proactive work regarding the management of our mental health detainees strengthened our operations. When detainees ask for you by name, that speaks volumes. When officers light up when you walk in, that tells me about your impact. When a difficult day becomes better because you’re there, that’s what real service looks like.”

Mr. Simons added: “You embody honesty, integrity, professionalism and compassion. Your contributions matter deeply. The lives you’ve touched through your work show what one dedicated person can do.”

The spokesperson said, “Thank you Ms. Smith, for your contribution to helping to make Bermuda safer, through the invaluable work that you do.”
