BPS & Customs Intercept Over $2M Of Drugs
The police and Customs recently intercepted two major drug shipments, which “prevented more than $2 million worth of drugs from reaching Bermuda’s streets.”
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service [BPS], working alongside H.M. Customs, has in recent weeks, intercepted two major shipments of illegal narcotics. In doing so the team prevented more than $2 million worth of drugs from reaching Bermuda’s streets.
“In one operation, officers at the Hamilton shipping docks seized a container concealing a large quantity of illicit substances. The discovery followed intelligence provided by the HM Customs Commercial Operations Unit, which led to a targeted inspection by dock officers, BPS Narcotics officers, and Customs inspectors. Their coordinated efforts resulted in the successful recovery and seizure of the drugs.
“In a separate but related matter, Customs officers at the L.F. Wade International Airport detained a 40-year-old Bermudian man arriving with drugs valued at more than $100,000. The drugs were recovered after the subject was selected for secondary inspection.”
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith, of the BPS Drugs Unit, praised the partnership between the two agencies: “These seizures highlight the power of inter-agency cooperation and intelligence-led policing. The collaboration between the BPS and HM Customs continues to play a vital role in tackling drug trafficking and organized crime.”
A Customs spokesperson added: “This operation reflects the continued vigilance and professionalism of our officers in protecting Bermuda’s borders. By working together and sharing intelligence, we are preventing dangerous drugs from entering our community and keeping Bermuda safe.”
The spokesperson said, “Both agencies reaffirm their commitment to strengthening joint operations, enhancing surveillance, and bringing those responsible for drug importation to justice. Investigations into both incidents remain ongoing.”

So they got 2 pounds of marijuana. Got it…
Excellent work from all the departments. Thank you and may we see more of these interceptions monthly

Where did this person depart from, and why were the drugs not found at that departure point? As I said before and to the Government, the cost of paying local police at airports to run drug sniffing dogs over checked baggage and then at the departure gate is far cheaper than the cost once the drugs are found in Bermuda. Let the police at the departure points arrest persons and pay the legal costs.
Now, Taxpayers have to shoulder the costs of a trial, and if convicted, $100,000+ a year incarceration costs at Westgate.
Typical Bermudian. No one owes you anything because you have pink sand.
Grow up.
What does that even mean regarding my comment? Is the sand not pink in your locality? Is there even sand there? But thanks for confirming who is and who is not a Bermudian.
LOL, that’s all you think you have!
I’m more Bermudians than you could ever hope to be.
I have actual skills and talent, though…I don’t rely on “being Bermudian” like you do.
“Typical Bermudian”
On behalf of all Bermudians I ask you to not make such generalities please
I’m Bermudian, on behalf of my people, reign in your condescension. I’ll express myself as I chose.
Now we wait, a very long time, to see if and who is prosecuted. Then we wait even longer to watch them get a tap on the wrists or walk on some technicality that a clever lawyer has found.
Like I said, pay to have the police at the departure points deal with the crime. Drug sniffing canines are at every major airport.
Pay for it…with you US dollars.
Ya they got that, but how much did they let slip through? Just asking
Who, in Bermuda, is exempt from customs searches and seizures?
Guess.
My guess is that the name starts with “The Honourable”.
It’s not singular
You are correct.
My guess is that their names starts with “The Honourable”.
