CURB’s New Board President’s Message
CURB’s newly appointed Board President, Keith Jernigan Sr., has issued a message expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organization and outlining recent progress, leadership transitions, and the vision for CURB’s continued growth and community impact.
In their email newsletter, Mr. Jernigan said, “Dear Members, Supporters, and Friends of CURB,
“I am writing to share my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to serve as CURB’s new President of the Board. I am deeply honored by this responsibility and energized by the important work that lies ahead.
“I would like to thank our outgoing President, Hashim Estwick, and outgoing Vice President, Cordell Riley, for their years of dedicated leadership. Their service has strengthened CURB’s foundation and guided our progress during a year of real transformation.
“I would also like to express my deep appreciation for our Executive Director, Stacey-Lee Williams, whose leadership, commitment, and tireless work have been instrumental in CURB’s growth and stability. Stacey-Lee has been the driving force behind our program expansion, our strengthened operational systems, and our increased presence in the community. Her ability to balance strategic vision with on-the-ground execution has elevated CURB’s credibility, broadened our partnerships, and ensured that our work remains both impactful and deeply rooted in the needs of the community. The progress we celebrate today across governance, fundraising, public engagement, and restorative justice initiative, is in no small part due to her steady guidance and exceptional dedication.
“This past year, CURB advanced significantly across governance, programming, community engagement, and operational stability. Through our work with the Non Profit Alliance, Propel Initiative, we refined our governance practices, strengthened organizational policies, sharpened our Theory of Change, and updated our mission and vision as we continue progressing toward BNSC certification.
“Our programs also expanded meaningfully:
- Truth & Reconciliation Community Conversations brought Bermudians together for honest, courageous dialogue.
- The Speaker Series explored pressing topics including white identity, Black empowerment, and race and religion.
- Restorative Practices programming reached 14 public schools, helping reshape cultures of discipline and accountability.
- Partnerships with HOME and the MOM group deepened, supporting families and vulnerable community members.
- The Fair Play Initiative launched, supporting sports organizations to embed equity and restorative principles.
- The Reparations Committee led island wide consultations through focus groups and lunch-and-learns.
- CURB stewarded Emancipation Month commemorations, honoring the 190th anniversary with educational and cultural experiences.
- Our Student Leadership Conference united 60 public and private school students for identity, leadership, and social responsibility training.
“Financially, CURB achieved a strong turnaround; improved cash reserves, eliminated debt, strengthened donor engagement, and enhanced fundraising capabilities. These gains position us to continue expanding our programs and deepening our impact.
“I am pleased to welcome and congratulate our newly elected Central Council members:
- Michelle Scott
- Lynne Winfield
- Shannah Butterfield
- Sherrie Simmons
- Keith Jernigan
- Pastor David Trott
- Dr. Annabel Fountain
- Jason Hammer
- Rebekah Hayward
“And our new officers for the coming year:
- Vice President: Pastor David Trott
- Treasurer: Michelle Scott
- Secretary: Lynne Winfield
“Looking ahead, I will be working closely with our Executive Director, Stacey-Lee Williams, our board, and our community partners to elevate CURB’s visibility through stronger communications, more dynamic social media engagement, and expanded community outreach and activism.
“You may also see some enhancements in how we manage communication, meetings, and committee coordination. These changes are designed to support clarity, efficiency, and alignment as CURB enters a new chapter of organizational growth and public leadership.
“We have a lot of important work to do in the upcoming year, and we are looking forward to, and counting on, your continued support.
“Thank you for your ongoing support, your engagement, and your belief in CURB’s mission. I am honored to serve, and I look forward to continuing the work of racial equity, justice, and healing alongside you.”
