Lighting Of The Town To Be Held On Nov 29th
The Corporation of St. George’s will host the “Lighting of the Town” celebration on Saturday, November 29th from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at King’s Square.
A spokesperson said, “After seven years, this cherished event returns to mark the official start of the Christmas season in the Town of St. George. The celebration holds special meaning as the Town commemorates its 25th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing more than four centuries of continuous community life in the oldest English town in the New World.
“Founded in 1612, the Town of St. George served as Bermuda’s first capital and remains a living reminder of the island’s early colonial history. For generations, families have gathered in King’s Square to share moments of joy and togetherness—traditions that continue to define the spirit of the Town.”
“We’re thrilled to welcome the community back for this special evening,” said Mayor Quinell Francis, JP. “The Lighting of the Town has always brought families and neighbors together, and reviving it during our UNESCO anniversary year feels especially meaningful. This season reminds us of what truly matters—community, kindness, and the light we share with one another.”
A spokesperson added, “The evening will feature performances by East End Primary, St. George’s Preparatory, Richard Allen AME, Ebenezer Methodist Church, and the Salvation Army. Entertainment will also include the Vibe Tribe Gombeys, DJ Mystro, PowerGirl, and the Town Crier, with blessings offered by Pastor Thomas Nisbett from St. Peter’s Church. His Excellency Mr. Andrew Murdoch, CMG, Governor of Bermuda and other dignitaries will join the Council for the official lighting ceremony, which will illuminate King’s Square and extend through Water Street, Ordnance Island, and York Street up to Somers Garden, transforming the Town into a festive Winter Wonderland.
“Guests can enjoy complimentary egg nog donated by Dunkley’s. Treats from local vendors including Food Hub, Duch Pops, and Dandy Donuts, along with a bake sale hosted by the Sui Genesis Group will be on sale from the King’s Square.”
“We invite everyone to join us for this magical evening,” added the Mayor. “Let’s celebrate the holidays together in the heart of Bermuda’s history and community.”
A spokesperson added, “The Corporation of St. George’s extends its gratitude to UNESCO Grants, community partners, and volunteers for their support in making this event possible.”
