Faster Processing Times For Bermuda Passports

November 15, 2025 | 6 Comments

The Department of Immigration has announced faster processing times for Bermuda passports.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Department of Immigration is pleased to announce a significant improvement in processing times for British Overseas Territories Citizen [BOTC] Bermuda passports.

“Applicants no longer need to wait up to 20 weeks to receive a new passport. Thanks to recent operational enhancements, first-time, lost, or stolen passport applications are now processed within 6 to 8 weeks, and renewal applications within 4 to 6 weeks.

“Although BOTC Bermuda passports continue to be printed at His Majesty’s Passport Office in the United Kingdom, the Department’s local process improvements have streamlined turnaround times, reducing the processing times for passport applications.

“The restoration of the ‘BMU’ country code to BOTC Bermuda passports on April 30, 2024, was a major achievement. Combined with the reduction in processing times, this demonstrates the Department’s ongoing commitment to delivering faster, more reliable service and passports that continue to support seamless international travel.

“The Department of Immigration thanks the Bermuda public for its patience. For questions or more information about the passport application process, please visit www.gov.bm/department/immigration or call 246-8093.”

“Applicants no longer need to wait up to 20 weeks”

20 Weeks? It took 43 weeks (10 months) for me

  2. Great news says:

It took a long time to get it done but the Govt. stayed at the wicket. Thank you.

  3. Observer says:

Dial back to the 1980s when ONE person, a Mrs Lambert, dealt with passports, helped you fill out your application if needed, and you had your brand new passport in 2 DAYS!
Today, the ‘passport’ staff is increased by 1000% and the wait time by 4000%.
    Progress?

  4. Triangle Drifter says:

Reading between the lines it appears that the crazy long time to get passports renewed is in Bermuda, not in England for the printing process.

  5. 4 hours in UK says:

Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble – UK issues passports in 4 hours for same day appointments, so why on earth are we waiting longer than 2 working days, with a direct BDA to LHR daily flight?

Bermuda is NOT another world and we need an Immigration Minister with the capacity to resolve this unacceptably long time of 6-8 weeks

How on earth is this even remotely acceptable for an Island holding itself out to be global reinsurance Mecca, first world, blah blah sell

    • Joe Bloggs says:

Most of us are in Bermuda, so “same day appointments” are not really an option.

When I last renewed my passports (2023) it took 10 months for my Bermuda passport to be renewed and 28 days for my British passport to be renewed.
