Eva Frazzoni On Guatemala Qualifier And More
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Bermuda captain Eva Frazzoni says her team are braced for a tougher test away to Guatemala today [December 1] as they look to continue their winning start to the Concacaf W Qualifiers.
They opened their group C campaign with a 4-0 win away to the Cayman Islands on Friday, a convincing performance that included a goal from Frazzoni, who recently returned from a hip injury.
Bermuda must top the group – which also includes Costa Rica and Grenada – to reach the Concacaf W Championship.
“It was a perfect start, and Cayman were a good opposition to get us going,” Frazzoni told Bernews. “There’s always room for improvement, and we know we’re better than what we showed against Cayman.
“We had some new faces in the team, and it was important we asserted ourselves on the opposition and put a stamp on what we wanted to do.
“We’re very unified, and there’s a great feeling within the squad and staff. We want to continue to build momentum after a positive start.”
Frazzoni warned that Guatemala will present a far greater challenge.
“It’s a clean slate; we haven’t played them before,” she said. “We know it won’t be easy, we know it will be an uphill battle, but that’s what it’s all about.
“We want tough games, and we’re ready for it. We know on paper they should be stronger than Cayman, but it’s all about who shows up on the day.
“We want to be up there and getting results against the likes of Jamaica, Costa Rica and Guatemala. Our results are starting to show that. We’ve got even more to bring to the table.”
The 27-year-old, who plays for AFC Sudbury Women in England, said her return from injury has given her a new appreciation for the game.
“It’s been the biggest injury of my career, and I’ve had to work hard to get back on the pitch,” she added. “I’ve got ways to go, but it’s great to be back playing again.
“As captain, I need to show up for the team, and it’s great to be able to contribute on the field and not just off it.”
