Teekay Donates $20,000 To Local Charities

Teekay Tankers Ltd. donated $20,000 to four charities — Vision Bermuda, the Bermuda Sailors’ Home, Westmeath Residential & Nursing Care Home, and the Endeavour Maritime Career Springboard programme.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda based company Teekay Tankers Ltd. donated a total of $20,000.00 to Bermuda charities as part of the Company’s Annual Corporate Social Responsibility program 2025. Angelique Burgess, Senior Manager Corporate Affairs said that Teekay is committed to supporting charitable organizations that align with Teekay’s SPIRIT values.

“This year’s recipients for the donations were the following charities:

  • Vision Bermuda [formerly The Bermuda Society for the Blind]

“Teekay have recognized the value of Vision Bermuda’s mission and have donated to their Critical Needs programme for the past three years.”

Ms. Theresa Hall from Vision Bermuda said, “We are honoured by the ongoing commitment from Teekay Tankers Ltd. to our work at Vision Bermuda. Each year, their generous support enables us to reach more people who are navigating the challenges of sight loss, ensuring they receive meaningful assistance and the opportunity to maintain their independence and quality of life.”

The spokesperson said, “Vision Bermuda offers programmes providing essential services and support to those in need. By addressing the financial and practical barriers that prevent people from receiving adequate care, Vision Bermuda is helping to prevent unnecessary blindness and aims to improve the quality of life for those with vision loss. Their mission is to promote visual health and empower people with visual impairment to achieve independence.

  • Bermuda Sailors’ Home

“The Bermuda Sailors’ Home received a donation that will assist with the Home’s equipment upgrades. The Bermuda Sailors’ Home was formed by several Bermudian philanthropists of a nautical and patriotic nature in 1927. The main purpose of the Home is to provide a recreation center and home for the promotion of happiness and well-being of all seafarers. The Home opened their Dockyard location in 2019, and this facility has proven beneficial in meeting the needs of cruise ship crew who have limited time off.”

Mr. Edward Barnes from the Sailors’ Home said, “The Bermuda Sailors’ Home is thrilled with the very kind donation that we received from Teekay Tankers Ltd. that will go toward helping us to keep the Home ready and available for all Seafarers that find their way to our shores and assist the Home in meeting its important mission.”

  • Westmeath Residential & Nursing Care Home

The spokesperson said, “Was gifted with a donation to assist with the purchase of a wheelchair weigh scale to assist clients who are wheelchair bound.”

Ms. Jennifer Nisbett, Director of Nursing said that the, “Westmeath Residential and Nursing Home truly appreciates Teekay Tankers Ltd.’s generosity and the new equipment will address one of the Home’s pressing needs.”

  • Endeavour Maritime Career Springboard Programme

The spokesperson said, “A donation was given toward support for students to attend the Endeavour Maritime Career Springboard 7-week programme which is geared to maritime and career training for individuals who are seeking employment in a maritime career.”

Ms. Jennifer Pitcher, Executive Director of Endeavour, stated, “We are deeply grateful for Teekay Tankers Ltd.’s support of young Bermudians participating in the Endeavour Maritime Career Springboard Programme. With their support, we are providing young Bermudians with hands-on experience, skills development, and valuable career connections, empowering them to pursue opportunities in the maritime industry.”
