Results: Carifta Games Trial Meet
The Bermuda National Athletics Association hosted the opening Carifta Games Trial Meet at the Flora Duffy Stadium.
The event marked the start of the qualifying window, with several athletes coming close of the standards required for the regional showpiece.
Several competitors produced encouraging performances, with a number getting nearer to booking their place at the top regional event.
One of the highlights of the meet came in the Under-17 women’s 1,500 metres, where Riana Robinson recorded a time of 5min 08.71sec, finishing just over two seconds outside the 5:06.00 qualifying mark.
In the Under-17 men’s 1,500, Sanchez Smith delivered a strong run, clocking a personal-best 4:26.30 to finish six seconds shy of the required standard.
Gianluca Bortoli also impressed in the Under-20 division, completing his heat in 4:16.79, putting him within seven seconds of qualification.
The sprint events saw Surii Russell compete across both the Under-17 and Under-20 400.
His time of 52.03 was the fastest of the day and left him 1.59 seconds off the Under-17 qualifying standard.
Kelise Wade also showed promise in the Under-17 women’s 400, stopping the clock at 1:01.27.
Over the shorter distance, Leydi Raynor claimed top honours in the Under-17 women’s 100 in 13.07, while Chanz Martin topped the men’s final with a winning time of 12.21.
