Gayle Lindsay is returning to Bermuda to compete in the Chubb Half Bermuda Triangle Challenge, continuing her long-standing connection with the island’s running community.

Lindsay, a three-time Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby champion, lived in Bermuda for 13 years before returning to her native Scotland last summer.

She finished third in last year’s Half Bermuda Triangle Challenge after strong performances in the Mile, 10K, and Half-Marathon, having won the overall title the previous year.

Lindsay, who will line up in the elite women’s race in the Butterfield Mile, said reintegrating with the local running community is what she is most looking forward to.

“Of all the things I miss about Bermuda – and there are many – the running community is right at the top of the list,” Lindsay told Bernews.

“I still try to keep up with what’s happening on the local running scene from afar, so it will be great to reconnect, catch up with familiar faces, and feel part of that community again, even if just for a short time.”

Lindsay said she expects familiar emotions on race day, despite now competing as a visitor.

“I don’t think it will feel drastically different in terms of race-day emotions – there will still be the familiar nerves, excitement, and buzz that come with competing in such a special atmosphere,” she said.

“I imagine the hardest part will actually be leaving again once it’s all over.”

She acknowledged that recent injury setbacks have affected her preparation.

“It’s been a bit of a frustrating period with a few injury setbacks, so I know I’m not in quite the same shape I was last year,” Lindsay said.

“I don’t have any podium expectations this time around, but I’ll be approaching each race with the same mindset – giving my best effort and enjoying the experience.”

Since leaving Bermuda, Lindsay said she has remained heavily involved in the sport both competitively and as a coach.

“I spent five weeks training in Uganda and Kenya, which was an unforgettable experience,” she said.

“Being immersed in such a rich and deeply ingrained running culture was inspiring, not just as an athlete but also from a coaching perspective.”

She also competed in the Chicago Marathon in October and is now based in Scotland, where her coaching work continues to expand.

“Coaching has been going really well, and I feel like I’m constantly learning and developing,” she added.

“I’ve been fortunate to work with a wide range of athletes, all with different goals and backgrounds, which keeps things exciting and challenging.

“It has been hugely fulfilling to help people work towards, and achieve, a running goal that is meaningful to them.”
