Dage Minors will aim to secure another Butterfield Mile title in the elite men’s race on Front Street tonight [January 17].

Minors, who became the first Bermudian to win the iconic race in 2018, expects a stern challenge from local runner Ryan Outerbridge and Britain’s Ben Claridge.

“The Front Street Mile is one of those races when anything can happen!” said Minors, who still holds the mile record in the boys’ middle school race [5:01.90].

“I’m expecting another tough battle. I’ve already raced against some of the guys.

“I obviously know Ryan, and my training partner from the UK, Ben Claridge, will also be competing, which helps raise the standard.”

Depending on how he feels after running the BF&M 10K tomorrow, Minors said he will consider competing in the PwC Half-Marathon on Sunday as part of the Chubb Bermuda Triangle Half Challenge.

“I’m entered in all three races,” said Minors, who won the mile last year and in 2023.

“I’ll definitely run the mile and 10k and see how I feel for the half-marathon.

“It would be the first time I’ve done all three races. It’s a big challenge!

“I don’t have any crazy expectations for the 10k. It’s a quick turnaround from the night before.”

The 29-year-old, who is coached by Welshman James Thie, who won the Front Street Mile in 2003 and 2004, competed in his first half-marathon last year in Cambridge, England. He finished 43rd in 1hr 10min 05sec.

“The half-marathon is way longer than I’m used to,” he added. “It’s not something I train for, but it’s something I can do.

“If I’m tapped out come Saturday afternoon, then there’s no point in going out and running 13 miles the next day. It will be a last-minute decision.”
