Joseph Lau Claims Bronze In Ottawa

Joseph Lau claimed a bronze medal on day two of the Victor Ontario Junior C Badminton Tournament in Carleton, Ottawa, yesterday [January 4].

Lau earned a podium finish alongside Canadian partner Swara Pawar in the Under-19 Mixed Doubles division.

The pair defeated Eric Tan and Sophia Kan in the bronze-medal match, winning 21-17, 17-21, 21-15.

“This medal means a lot to me because it reflects hard work and commitment, as well as the support of everyone around me, especially the coaches,” Lau told Bernews.

“Representing Bermuda and achieving this result is something I’m very proud of, and it pushes me to continue striving for higher goals.”

In the Boys’ Under-19 Doubles, Lau teamed up with fellow Bermudian Aaron Lee. They had opening defeats to Haihan Sun and Zihan Wu [21-8, 21-10], followed by a loss to Xavier Chan and Jeremy Yuan [21-11, 21-13].

The Bermudian pair were also beaten by Lemuel Ng and Adrian Tang [21-10, 21-7] and by Michael Gadza and Tayson Te [21-10, 21-11].

Meanwhile, JitHom Liew competed in the Boys’ Under-15 Singles division, where he was defeated by Daniel Paul 21-15, 21-9.

The team were accompanied by coach Emma Moran-Lee.
