Ministry Issues Two Road Traffic Notices
The Ministry of Public Works and Environment announced a temporary Middle Road closure in Flatts on January 9 for wall repairs and traffic controls on January 11 for the “Rum to the Beach” road race.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works and Environment wishes to inform the motoring public that Middle Road in Flatts, Smith’s Parish, specifically the westbound-only section between Verdmont Road and Store Hill, will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, 9 January 2026.
“This closure is necessary to accommodate a scheduled concrete pour related to ongoing wall repair works previously announced under Road Traffic Notice 80B/2025. The works are expected to begin shortly after 9 a.m. and take approximately four hours to complete.
“During this time, traffic, including public buses, will be rerouted via Verdmont Road. Bus users travelling to Hamilton are advised to access the service from Verdmont Road or from Middle Road east of Hermitage Road. The Department of Public Transportation has been notified of the change.
“Motorists are encouraged to plan accordingly and to use alternate routes where possible. For further details on the original traffic control measures in effect under RTN 80B/2025, please refer to the attached notice.
“Rum to the Beach” road race
“Additionally, the Ministry advises that the ‘Rum to the Beach’ road race, presented by Goslings and the Hamilton Princess, will be held on Sunday, 11 January 2026.
“The race will occur between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., starting from Dundonald Street in Hamilton and finishing at the Hamilton Princess Beach Club in Southampton.
“Although no road closures are scheduled, traffic controls will be in place along the route. Police Officers and Race Marshals will be stationed to direct traffic and ensure public safety. Motorists are asked to proceed with caution and follow all instructions provided.”
