PLP Unveils Official Portrait Of Dr. Ewart Brown
The Progressive Labour Party unveiled the official portrait of former Premier Dr. Ewart Brown at its headquarters.
A spokesperson said, “The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] hosted the official portrait unveiling of former Premier of Bermuda and Party Leader, Dr. the Hon. Ewart Brown, JP, MP, on Thursday, 15 January 2026, at the Party’s headquarters in the Reginald A. Burrows Building on Court Street.
“The evening event was attended by Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, former MPs, PLP members, and members of the public, along with friends and family of Dr. Brown.
“The unveiling marked a significant moment in the Party’s history, recognising Dr. Brown’s leadership and lasting impact.”
Premier and plp Party Leader, David Burt said, “Dr. Brown’s accomplishments were guided by a deep sense of justice and equality and it is a privilege to stand here today to celebrate his life and legacy while he is still here to witness it.
“Dr. Brown did not wait for permission to do what Bermuda needed,” adding, “Through his actions, he remained true to the belief that access to healthcare, opportunity, and a life of dignity are the rights of every Bermudian.”
Dr. Brown thanked those in attendance and his wife, Wanda Brown, for her support over the years.
He said, “I did not see my four years in office as just a term. I saw it as 48 months, which was a chance to do something that would change Bermuda every month. This was not to press for results. This was stimulation to bring out the best in us.”
He asked, “Are we simply here to enjoy the fruits of other people’s labour, or are we here to produce for the future?” and concluded with a direct message to the Party, saying, “There are two P’s in PLP. And not one of them stands for passive.”
Bermudian artist Nashon Hollis also shared his reflections on creating the portrait. He said, “My reputation as a photorealistic painter has grown over the years, and I was honoured that Dr. Brown asked me to create his portrait commemorating his political life in the PLP. It felt unreal to have my work at the centre of such a significant occasion, and I appreciate the support I’ve received from the community.”
A spokesperson added, “At the conclusion of the event, the portrait was placed among those of other leaders who have shaped the Progressive Labour Party and Bermuda’s modern political history.”
