Run Bermuda’s Backyard Ultra Race returns for its fourth edition on Saturday, February 21, at Southside in St. David’s.

A spokesperson said, “The local running event with no finish line is gearing up for its fourth staging. On February 21st at Southside in St. Davids, Run Bermuda’s Backyard Ultra Race, sponsored by Monument Re, will see runners’ complete loops of 4.167 miles every hour on the hour until there is only one runner left standing. Any time between the completion of a loop and the start of the next hour, the participants are allowed to rest, refuel, and hydrate. The goal is simple: to try and do as many 4.167 loops as one possibly can.

“The local event has raised $46,000 for Raleigh Bermuda’s youth programs since its inception. Thanks to Monument Re’s generous support, 100% of 2026 entry fees will again go to the charity.

“The event welcomes entries from runners targeting any distance, whether one or two loops or a pathway to qualify for international competition. Fifteen Bermuda athletes competed in the 2024 World Team Championships, powering Bermuda to a top fifty finish.

“Two-time champion Jason Williams earned entry to last year’s Individual World Championships in Tennessee, where he set a new national record after running for 42 hours and reaching 175 miles. Qualification spots to join Jason and last year’s winner Florin Teleman on the Bermuda team for the 2026 World Team Event in October are to be contested at the February 21st event which is likely to continue into Sunday February 22nd and only concludes when there is only one participant left standing.”

Race Coordinator Andy McComb commented: “The local running community has embraced the backyard format. It offers a unique chance to push your personal limits in a safe and supportive environment, whether that is going beyond 5k or 10k or half marathon distance for the first time or breaking into ultra distance and running through the night. It is a test of endurance for all participants. Because everybody starts each lap together, there is a very special camaraderie and inclusivity to the event.”

The spokesperson said, “For more information or to sign up, please visit www.bermudabackyard.com, or https://runsignup.com/Race/BM/StDavids/BermudasBackyardRun. The entry deadline for the event is 11:59pm on Tuesday 17th February.

“Race organisers are looking for community volunteers to assist with race marshalling. Those willing to volunteer, please contact bdabackyardultra@gmail.com.”
