Bermuda High School is launching a new initiative focused on women’s health called the She Thrives workshop series, with the first event scheduled for February 18.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda High School is putting women’s health at the forefront with the introduction of the She Thrives workshop series.

“The first event of the series, She Thrives Through Puberty, will take place on February 18th, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. This will be an informative evening on navigating female puberty, covering both the physical and social-emotional aspects, with guidance and advice from a panel of experts, including Dr Sandy DeSilva from The Family Centre and Nurse Lucy Smith from the Department of Health.”

Deputy Head of School, Catherine Hollingsworth said, “As an all-girls school, we’re normalising puberty conversations, equipping parents and daughters with knowledge, confidence and support so that girls feel safe, understood and empowered in their changing bodies, This community event is open to anyone who is interested in learning how to support a young woman through this journey. Whether you’re a mother, a father, a grandparent, an aunt/uncle, or a godparent, we encourage you to come along and learn.”

BHS Guidance Counsellor, Christyn Simons, added, “She Thrives Through Puberty is the first of its kind hosted by BHS to provide information and resources to families that will hopefully better prepare them for the inevitable shifts in the physical and socio-emotional areas of their daughters’ lives that come while transitioning through puberty. There are many resources available within the community that provide great direct and supplemental support to families; this event is positioned to make knowledge of and access to those resources more readily available to everyone.”

A spokesperson said, “The event will also include a marketplace offering a wide range of modern products and resources. Market vendors will include Herbgoddess Teas & Medicinal Botanicals, Strange Bird Sensorial Skincare, and the Pearson Clinic. These vendors have been selected because they offer tailored, supportive solutions for young girls during puberty. From calming herbal teas and gentle skincare to holistic practices such as acupuncture, these vendors offer a well-rounded, empowering experience for girls and their families.”

Head of School, Carol A. Swainson said, “I recommend this event for all adults who have girls in their lives. Much has changed over the last decade. What you will learn at She Thrives Through Puberty will equip you with the tools you need to support your daughters, nieces, goddaughters, etc,”

A spokesperson said, “Registration for She Thrives Through Puberty is available at BHS.bm/events.”
