Local Players Impress In Championships
The Butterfield Bermuda Junior Championships began this week at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, with 76 players completing their opening rounds.
In the boys’ division, SJ Thomas, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Italy’s Andrea Birolini share the lead after rounds of one-under-par 70.
Fletcher Finch, also of Birmingham, is third on even-par 71.
Orlando Torres, of Florida, and Bermuda’s Oliver Betschart and John Bart are tied for fourth at two-over 73, two shots off the lead.
In the girls’ division, Maya Brown of Thousand Oaks, California, leads after a two-over-par 73.
She is two shots ahead of Aspen Bikowski and Annie Jin, who are tied for second.
Aubrey Hilgers, Nikitha Suresh and Andie Greenberg are one shot further back at four-over 75.
Bermuda’s Darina Betschart opened with an 83 and is tied for nineteenth place.
