Special Olympics Bermuda athlete Solay Thomas will represent the island at the inaugural Special Olympics North America [SONA] Athlete Congress next month.
Thomas will be among 27 athletes from Canada, the Caribbean and the United States attending the event from March 8 to 13 at the Special Olympics Michigan headquarters to discuss topics affecting athletes across the region.
“Congratulations to Solay Thomas, SO Bermuda Athlete Leader, who will join with other Athlete Leaders from the Caribbean Region, Special Olympics Caribbean Initiative, as representatives at the Special Olympics North America [SONA] Congress,” read a Special Olympics Bermuda social media post.
“This milestone event will focus on issues affecting athletes within local programmes and will help shape the agenda for the 2027 Global Athlete Congress in Chile.
“We acknowledge and celebrate this achievement and the significant preparations involved in representing her fellow athletes both locally and internationally.”
Thomas won a bronze medal in the women’s shot put at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin in 2023.
