Govt: ‘Unsettled Weather Conditions’ Expected

The Ministry of National Security is “advising residents to prepare for unsettled weather conditions forecast by the Bermuda Weather Service [BWS], beginning tomorrow and continuing through the weekend.”

A spokesperson said, ”According to the BWS, the island can expect gale force winds, cooler temperatures, and the possibility of thunder activity through Sunday evening. Weather conditions remain subject to change, and the system is being closely monitored.”

Minister of National Security, Michael Weeks, said, “We are asking everyone to pay close attention to the forecast. As we saw last weekend, severe weather can cause disruptions, so residents and businesses should make sensible plans, secure their property where necessary, and avoid unnecessary risks. In particular, I urge motorists to travel with care if they must be on the roads.”

The Ministry “encourages the public to stay informed by monitoring updates from the Bermuda Weather Service at weather.bm and through official Government communications channels.”

The latest BWS forecast states:

Friday – Early blustery showers clearing to leave some sunny spells… Winds southwesterly strong, soon increasing strong to gale force with gusts to storm force in showers, possibly gale force with gusts to storm force especially in exposed/elevated areas, veering westerly early afternoon then easing strong by evening and west-southwesterly moderate to strong late night… High near 19°C/67°F, low near 16°C/61°F. Clear sky UV Index forecast – 4 or moderate.

Saturday – Some sunny breaks with occasional gusty showers… Winds southwesterly moderate to strong, increasing westerly strong to gale force towards evening with gusts to gale force, further increasing west-northwesterly gale force overnight with gusts to storm force… High near 18°C/64°F, low near 12°C/53°F.

Sunday – Sunny periods with a few blustery showers, easing at times… Winds west-northwesterly gale force, with early gusts to storm force, easing strong to gale force by the evening, then strong overnight… High near 13°C/56°F, low near 11°C/51°F

    It is good that Minister of National Security, Michael Weeks tells us such things, otherwise Bermudians might never know. That is, of course, unless you have shark liver oil or listen to the radio or read the news or go to a weather website.
