IAPP Bermuda Marks Data Privacy Week
The IAPP Bermuda KnowledgeNet Chapter hosted an event on Tuesday [27 January] at The Cloud to celebrate Data Privacy Week 2026.
A spokesperson said, “The Data Privacy Week event attracted Bermuda professionals engaged in IT, business development, housing, compliance and the legal fraternity who are responsible for managing compliance with Bermuda’s Personal Information Protection Act 2016.
“The night started with an introduction of the IAPP Bermuda KnowledgeNet Chapter Co-Chairs for 2026. They are Nancy Volesky, Cheryl-Ann Mapp, Lovette Tannock and Gretchen Tucker, who was not in attendance. The Co-Chairs spoke about the Chapter and the work it does to promote the protection of personal information, to provide a forum for local privacy professionals to connect and to exchange as well as to encourage professional development.
“There was lively discussion at the event as attendees talked about their experiences in building data privacy programs in Bermuda and shared their plans to highlight personal information protection during Privacy Week.
“An invitation was issued to attendees to attend the IAPP Global Conference in Washington DC from 30 March – 2 April. Attendees were also informed that the IAPP is sponsoring 25 students who are pursuing privacy, digital responsibility or AI governance to attend the Conference and persons were encouraged to recommend full or part-time students to apply for the Conference scholarship.
“Keynote speakers at the conference include Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, who will share his insights on whether today’s digital world is breaking or bridging society. The author Salman Rusdie is also scheduled to discuss how our collective freedom to tell stories about our world determines the degree of freedom that we have in the society in which we live.
“The Chapter Co-Chairs ended the evening by thanking The Cloud for their support of the event, and inviting the Bermuda KnowledgeNet members and other professionals who are involved in data privacy to join the local chapter by visiting to our Linkedin page to find information on future events: IAPP KnowledgeNet: Bermuda Chapter – Privacy: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12391177/
