OBA Caucus Elects Ben Smith As Leader
Ben Smith — who was already appointed Opposition Leader after the OBA MPs passed a vote of no confidence in Robert King — has now been elected by the OBA caucus to serve as OBA Leader.
A spokesperson said, “New Opposition Leader of Bermuda, Ben Smith MP has now been elected by the OBA caucus to also serve as Leader of the political party One Bermuda Alliance.
“The vote followed a productive two-hour meeting where every caucus member was given an opportunity to speak and vote on whether they endorsed Wednesday’s vote by the OBA’ MPs, who passed a vote of no confidence in MP Robert King.
“Thirty-four ballots were cast, 24 voted to endorse the OBA MP’s no confidence vote in MP King as OBA Leader. Nine did not endorse, and there was one spoiled ballot making Opposition Leader Ben Smith also leader of the One Bermuda Alliance Party.
“The OBA Leader’s position will next be voted on by the OBA membership at the next OBA Party Conference.”
