Princess To Honour Simmons, Jones, Greaves
The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club has announced its 2026 honourees for their Black History Month Celebration Dinner, recognizing Charles-Etta Simmons, Glenn Jones, and Sophia Greaves.
A spokesperson said, “The Hamilton Princess & Beach Club is pleased to announce the 2026 honourees for its 8th Annual Black History Month Celebration Dinner: Bermudians former Justice Charles-Etta Simmons, NBC Boston Evening News Anchor Glenn Jones, and insurance and reinsurance legal practitioner Sophia Greaves.
“The celebratory cocktail reception and dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 27th, in the hotel’s Harbourview Ballroom. The Black History Month Celebration has become a signature annual event at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, drawing consistent community support year after year.
Tim Morrison, General Manager of the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, said: “We are honoured to recognize former Justice Charles-Etta Simmons, Glenn Jones, and Sophia Greaves as the 2026 honourees. This celebration is a valued annual tradition for the hotel, bringing together returning attendees and new guests alike to acknowledge the remarkable contributions of these individuals. The evening highlights not only their personal and professional journeys, but also the importance of recognizing members of our community during their lifetimes.”
A spokesperson said, “During the evening, three presenters will share brief reflections on the honourees’ lives and achievements, followed by appearances from former Justice Simmons, Glenn Jones, and Sophia Greaves before an audience of family, friends, and community members. A specially curated four-course menu has been created in collaboration with the honourees and the hotel’s Bermudian Sous Chef, Richard Zuill.

A portion of the proceeds from the event, will go to the honourees’ charities of choice: Packwood Home [registered charity #10], the Lady Cubitt Compassionate Association [LCCA registered charity #87] and The Flora Fund [registered with the Bermuda Community Foundation, charity #948].
About The 2026 Honourees:
“Charles-Etta Simmons
- Former Justice Charles-Etta Simmons [retired], became the first Bermudian-born Black woman to serve as a full-time Supreme Court judge. Throughout her judicial career, Justice Simmons chaired the Legal Aid Committee and the Round Table on Domestic Violence, represented Bermuda in the Caribbean Association of Judicial Officers, and contributed to anti-money-laundering efforts through the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force. She presided over significant cases, most notably the 2017 ruling in Godwin and DeRoche v. Registrar-General, which legalized same-sex marriage in Bermuda. After nearly 30 years of service, she retired from the Supreme Court in 2022, and briefly sat as a Justice of Appeal. Today, she continues her distinguished career as a consultant at Chancery Legal Ltd., specializing in private client work, particularly Wills and Probate.
Glenn Jones
- Glenn Jones is a Boston/New England Emmy Award-winning journalist at NBC Boston. He has a decade of experience as a field reporter and anchor, covering news in the competitive Boston media market in the mid-2000s as well as over the past four years. Glenn served as Bermuda’s press secretary where he led crisis communications and media relations for the country’s highest elected office. In 2020, he was interim CEO and chief experience officer for the Bermuda Tourism Authority. In his five years with the destination marketing organization, Glenn co-hosted fan experience activities for the globally televised America’s Cup in 2017, secured the world’s first spectator-attended PGA Tour event since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and led the development of a multi-year national tourism plan.
Sophia Greaves
- Sophia Greaves is a Director in the Corporate department and Head of the Insurance and Reinsurance practice at Conyers Dill & Pearman, and was the first Black female to be appointed to these roles at the Firm. Sophia’s practice spans all aspects of insurance transactional and regulatory matters, and her client base is diverse ranging from start-ups to large multinational insurance groups with Bermuda operations. Sophia is the Chair of the Scholarship Committee at Conyers Dill & Pearman and is actively involved in the firm’s recruitment initiatives. She also serves on numerous Bermuda company Boards and is the Recording Secretary for the Lady Cubitt Compassionate Association [LCCA].
