Shadow Minister On Pharmacy/Insurance Deal
“I implore the Health Minister to look into this situation as it is simply untenable to the people of Bermuda,” Shadow Health Minister Craig Cannonier said.
MP Craig Cannonier said, “The recent announcement by Allshores is concerning and cannot be ignored. The initial reaction from residents and independent pharmacists alike is one of surprise and disappointment.
“While it cites that by having a sole provider for certain medicines will assist in keeping the rising cost of medication down, this move will negatively affect the bottom line for smaller and independent pharmacies. Can Bermuda truly afford to see any more businesses close?” Mr. Cannonier asks.
“The residents of Bermuda, when already concerned with medical issues, do not need the added stress of being pressured to use a pharmacy that may not be their first choice.
“For the last two years, on the floor of the House of Assembly, I have been urging the Government to take a serious look at health insurance companies and how they were heading towards monopoly. Nothing has happened and here we are today. I implore the Health Minister to look into this situation as it is simply untenable to the people of Bermuda.”

Ok, but what do you expect the Minister to do about it? There is nothing illegal in what Allshores is doing.
