Island Trading has become an official Beyond Plastics Bermuda Champion, receiving the organisation’s Champions Certificate for its commitment to reducing single-use plastics.

A spokesperson said, “Island Trading is pleased to announce that we are now an official member of Beyond Plastics Bermuda and have received the organisation’s Champions Certificate, recognising our commitment to reducing single-use plastics and supporting sustainable business practices.”

Managing Director Laura Farge-Lowe said, “Sustainability has long been part of how we do business. For more than 40 years, we’ve offered products made from recycled materials, and we continue to take practical steps to reduce our environmental footprint.”

The spokesperson said, “As of January 2026, Island Trading eliminated single-use plastics from our operations, including shopping bags, coffee pods, plastic cups, and plastic utensils. The retailer also continues to work with environmentally responsible suppliers who share their values—through sustainably sourced materials, reduced and recycled packaging, and fabrics produced without harmful chemicals—helping our customers create healthier homes while protecting Bermuda’s natural environment.”

“We welcome the Government’s upcoming legislation to reduce single-use plastic waste, and we’re delighted to be fully compliant ahead of its introduction,” added Ms. Farge-Lowe. “Joining Beyond Plastics Bermuda strengthens our commitment to island-wide efforts and a more sustainable future. We also encourage other local businesses to partner with Katie Berry and her team at Beyond Plastics Bermuda to become Champions and help drive island-wide change.”

The spokesperson said, “By partnering with Beyond Plastics Bermuda, Island Trading joins a growing network of organisations working to educate the community, encourage responsible consumption, and reduce plastic waste in Bermuda’s ecosystems.

“Island Trading remains committed to finding new ways to reduce waste, source responsibly, and help keep Bermuda clean and beautiful for generations to come.”
