Minister of National Security Michael Weeks joined Victor Scott Primary students and staff to celebrate the naming of their first official mascot, “Scotty,” during a special assembly.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael Weeks, JP, MP, this week visited Victor Scott Primary School to join students and teachers for a special assembly marking the announcement of the school’s first official mascot name, “Scotty”.

“The mascot naming formed part of a school-wide effort that allowed students to help shape a new tradition for the Victor Scott Primary community.

“The announcement took place on Tuesday, in time for the start of the school’s Sports Day celebrations. The occasion was especially meaningful for Minister Weeks, who attended Victor Scott Primary as a child.”

Minister Weeks said, “It was an honour to return to Victor Scott Primary and share in such a proud and joyful moment for the school.

“As someone who began his own journey here as a student, it meant a great deal to come back and see the excitement and school pride on full display.”

He added, “I want to congratulate the students, teachers and staff on creating something that clearly means a great deal to this school community.

“It was wonderful to see the students so engaged in the naming process and so excited to welcome Scotty as part of their school identity.”

A Government spokesperson added, “Minister Weeks also recognised the staff members whose efforts helped bring the mascot idea to life.”

He said, “I also want to acknowledge Mr Aaron Lugo for creating the original bulldog design that helped shape this mascot, and para educator Ms Ann Williams for the work she did to build on that idea, organise the school-wide competition, and help turn it into a moment the students could truly enjoy and remember.”

A Government spokesperson added, “Reflecting on his visit, Minister Weeks said he hoped the occasion would encourage the students to take pride in their school and in themselves.”

“School experiences like this matter,” said Minister Weeks. “They help build belonging, unity and confidence among young people. I hope the students of Victor Scott Primary will always remember that they can take pride in where they come from and in what they can achieve.”

Minister Weeks added, “I am thankful to the Victor Scott Primary family for welcoming me back for this special occasion. It was a pleasure to celebrate with them, and I wish all of the students and staff a successful and spirited Sports Day.”

So we bring in a mascot to placate the students. You can’t make this stuff up. And call him Scotty after a great principal who had standards thrown out in the dump next door. Go Scotty go…the children need standards that Victor Scott fought for. Come back when the children attain them.
