Registration is now open for the 51st Annual Bermuda National Trust Palm Sunday Walk, a 5.85-mile scenic route starting on Boaz Island on March 29.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda National Trust [BNT] is delighted to announce the return of its much-loved Palm Sunday Walk, now in its 51st year. This popular community tradition offers residents and visitors the chance to enjoy a scenic walk, healthy outdoor exercise, and time together while exploring Bermuda’s natural beauty, national parks, and historic landmarks.

“This year’s 5.85-mile [9.5 km] route begins on Boaz Island in Sandys Parish, with a flexible start time between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Parking will be available in a field on Boaz Island off Runway Lane, and participants can expect to complete the walk in approximately two to two and a half hours.

“The carefully planned route, designed by Myles Darrell, Head of Natural Heritage at BNT, will take walkers through several beautiful locations including Lagoon Park, over Watford Bridge, Royal Naval Dockyard Cemetery, and along Mangrove Bay, as well as through scenic stretches of Sandys Parish’s coastline.”

“The Palm Sunday Walk is a wonderful spring tradition that invites the community to step outside, enjoy fresh air, and discover parts of Bermuda they may not have explored before,” said Mr. Darrell. “This year’s route highlights a number of fascinating natural and cultural heritage sites in the West End of Bermuda, which will be featured on our official event map.”

A spokesperson added, “Participants are encouraged to register and donate online at runsignup.com, helping the Trust cover the cost of organising the event and supporting BNT’s year-round work preserving Bermuda’s natural and cultural heritage. Full details and the registration link are available at bnt.bm.

“Registration fees are $20 for BNT members, $25 for non-members, and $10 for children aged 6–12. Registered participants may collect their event bibs at Waterville, located at 2 Pomander Road, during business hours on Friday, March 27, or on Saturday, March 28 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Early registration is strongly encouraged to avoid long lines on the day of the walk.

“Event T-shirts featuring the familiar Walking Palmetto logo will also be available for purchase.

“Participants are advised to wear sturdy walking shoes, as parts of the route include rugged terrain, and to bring reusable water bottles. Water refill stations will be generously supplied by John Barritt & Son Ltd.; however, single-use plastic bottles and cups will not be provided. Along the route, walkers can enjoy hot cross buns and orange quarters available for a small donation.

“Please note that the route is not suitable for strollers, and dogs are not permitted.”
