Khano Smith’s Rhode Island were defeated 3-1 on penalties at home to the New England Revolution in the Lamar US Open Cup Round of 32.
The match ended 1-1 in regulation time, with Rhode Island equalising in stoppage time through JJ Williams after Diego Fagundez had given the MLS side the lead.
Tanner Beason scored the decisive penalty to send the Revolution, who Smith played for as a winger, into the Round of 16.
