Top Seeds Fall At Bermuda Match Play
Several top seeds were defeated at the Bermuda Match Play Championship at Port Royal Golf Course yesterday [April 18] after play was delayed by morning thunderstorms.
James Godwin beat top seed Jarryd Dillas 3 & 1 in the men’s quarter-finals. Dillas had earlier beaten Scott Barnett 5 & 4.
In the senior division, Christopher Phillips beat top seed Sheldon Chychrun 3 & 1, while Alec Anderson beat second seed Craig Christensen 8 & 7.
Two round-of-16 matches went beyond 18 holes. Robbie Bailey beat Andrew MacFarlane on the 19th hole, and Daniel Holland beat Dan Roy on the 20th.
Both later lost in the quarter-finals. Jonathan James beat Bailey 6 & 5, and Oliver Betschart beat Holland 2 up. Betschart also beat Lewis MacFarlane 8 & 6.
In the semi-finals, Godwin will face James, and Arman Newton will play Betschart after beating Johnny Bart 3 & 2.
In the senior division, Phillips will face Ian Page, and Anderson will play Geoffrey Piggott.
