Bermuda Women Lead Kitty Michael Invitational

Bermuda’s top female golfers led the field after the opening day of the 46th Kitty Michael Invitational, overcoming windy conditions at Old Quarry Golf Course to take first place in both the Gross and Net team standings.

The 10-player Bermuda team, captained by Tracy Burgess with Maria Harris as vice captain, outperformed an international field in challenging trade winds. Team members Valerie Nearon, Tracy Nash, Ann Symonds, Katyna Rabain, Lesley Wollmann, Katrin Burnie, Angela Cook and Jomari Vosloo contributed to the opening-day results.

Burgess led the Gross Division with an eight-over-par 80, recording three birdies and nine pars despite a triple bogey. Harris topped the Net Division at even par, finishing with seven pars and recovering from a quadruple bogey to remain among the individual leaders.

Ann Symonds added to Bermuda’s gross total with a 16-over-par 88, which included one birdie and a series of 10 bogeys.

In the Net standings, Harris’s round was supported by Lesley Wollmann, who shot a three-over-par 75 highlighted by five birdies, and Symonds, who recorded a five-over-par 77 with four birdies.

Bermuda held the overall lead in both team categories at the end of the first day.
