Bermuda Gambit Chess Tournament On June 17
Somersfield Academy announced the return of the Bermuda Gambit chess tournament on June 17, 2026, a student-led initiative that raises money for The Family Centre.
A spokesperson said, “The event was created last year by four students—Jameson Feldman, 13, JitHom Liew, 13, Emma Osborne, 13, and Ana Na, 13—who are now in M3. Their initiative brought students together through a shared passion for chess while raising $700 for The Family Centre. This year, they aim to build on that success and raise even more in support of children, teens, and families across the community.
“Now in its second year, the Bermuda Gambit will welcome participants from Somersfield Academy, Saltus Grammar School, Warwick Academy, Somerset Primary School, and West End Primary School. Alongside the chess competition, participants will enjoy pizza, prizes, and opportunities to represent their schools in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry and school pride.
“The Bermuda Gambit is open to student players of varying experience levels, from emerging players to seasoned competitors. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Family Centre, helping to support programmes and services for children and families in Bermuda.”
Courtney Feldman, librarian at Somersfield Academy and coordinator of the event, said: “The Bermuda Gambit continues to grow because it combines competition with community service. It is inspiring to see students take the lead in creating an event that not only celebrates strategic thinking and sportsmanship but also makes a meaningful difference for local families.”
The spokesperson said, “Students interested in participating should contact Somersfield Academy for registration information at cfeldman@somersfield.bm.”
