Meyer Group & BEST Group Amalgamate
The Meyer Group of Companies will amalgamate with the BEST Group of Companies with “a clear focus on continuity, future leadership, and sustainable growth.”
A spokesperson said, “The Meyer Group of Companies and the BEST Group of Companies are pleased to announce their amalgamation after which the BEST Group will become part of the Meyer Group, subject to formal approval. For both organizations, this amalgamation marks a significant step in the continued evolution, succession planning, and long-term sustainability. As Meyer Group reaches its 150-year milestone in 2026, this strategic move reflects a clear focus on continuity, future leadership, and sustainable growth.
“The integration aligns Meyer’s legacy of stability, governance, and experience with BEST Group’s dynamic growth trajectory, operational capability, and entrepreneurial leadership. The relationship between the two organizations has developed over several years through successful collaborations, including the joint venture QRS and operational partnerships during the Covid period, where BEST Group demonstrated exceptional service and support during a premium cruise ship home porting operation in Bermuda. Governance collaboration further strengthened the relationship, with Jo Vieira joining the Meyer Group Board and Cheryl Hayward- Chew joining the BEST Group Board.
“Through these interactions, both organizations developed strong mutual respect, alignment in values, and a shared commitment to customer service, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability. Both Meyer Group and BEST Group are recognized leaders within their respective industries, having achieved that leadership by prioritizing the needs of customers and working closely with industry partners to deliver value and service excellence.”
Cheryl Hayward-Chew said, “This is a thoughtful and strategic step forward. As we celebrate our 150-year milestone, it is essential that we continue to evolve in a way that ensures long-term sustainability. Joe Vieira and BEST bring strong leadership, energy, and growth potential, which complements Meyer’s established foundation.”
Joe Vieira said, “Joining Meyer Group represents an exciting opportunity for BEST. This allows us to continue building on what we have established, while benefiting from the stability, structure, and long-term vision that Meyer provides.”
The spokesperson said, “At this stage, leadership structures will remain unchanged:
- Cheryl Hayward-Chew will continue as Meyer Group CEO.
- Joe Vieira will continue as CEO of BEST Group.
“The organizations have also established a phased transition plan over the next five years that will see Joe Vieira assume the role of Meyer Group CEO. Importantly, BEST Group will continue to operate as its own entity. The intention is not to combine operations for the sake of change, but rather to leverage the strengths, expertise, and capabilities of both organizations to better support employees, customers, stakeholders, and Bermuda’s broader economy. Importantly, both organizations will continue to operate with their distinct cultures and strengths, while identifying opportunities for collaboration and synergy over time.
“This strategic integration will be formally presented at the June 2026 Annual General Meeting.
“Together, Meyer Group and BEST Group remain committed to maintaining the values, service standards, and customer- focused approach that have made both organizations leaders in Bermuda.”
