Ball Hockey: Soca Kings Defeat Snipers
The inaugural Bermuda Tier 2 National Ball Hockey League season concluded with the Sunken Harbor Soca Kings defeating the Mid-Atlantic Snipers 6-5 in sudden-death overtime in the championship final at the PCC Hockey Rink.
The Snipers opened the scoring in the first period when Tom Duggan found the net.
The Soca Kings responded with five unanswered goals in the second period. Matt McPhail scored twice, while Robbie Bailey recorded a hat trick to give the Kings a 5-1 lead.
The Snipers mounted a comeback in the third period. Ross Rufiange scored at the 5:19 mark before Andrew Leavy added another goal less than two minutes later. Rufiange then scored his second of the game to cut the deficit to one goal, and Leavy scored with 10 seconds remaining to tie the game 5-5 and force overtime.
The Soca Kings secured the championship at 6:56 of the first overtime period when Duggan scored his second goal of the game to give his team a 6-5 victory.
