BHB Welcome 39 Summer Student Employees
Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] has welcomed 39 students to the organisation this summer in paid employment.
A spokesperson said, “More than a quarter of the students [11] are pursuing studies in allied health fields including kinesiology, social work, biomedical science, pharmacology, radiological science and laboratory science.”
BHB Director of Human Resources and Operations Nyon Steede says: “We have seven medical students, three pre-med and four psychology majors. Four of our seven nursing students are gaining experience on our long-term care units; one is in the ICU; one in Maternity and one, who has a double nursing/psychology major, has been assigned to the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.
“We have four students enrolled in healthcare business and business administration programmes, one pursuing studies in human resources, one in IT and one in digital forensics,” he adds.
The spokesperson said, “The 39 summer students were selected from 143 applicants ranging in age from 19 to 30. The minimum age accepted is 18.”
“Healthcare is a field that continues to expand,” says BHB Acting CEO and Chief of Nursing Judy Richardson. “The opportunities for employment at BHB are wide and we encourage students today to pursue their passion and consider if it fits in our organisation. We welcome qualified Bermudians to join us in meeting the health needs of our community.”
“We’re delighted to have attracted so many promising students to our summer programme this year,” says BHB Chief People Officer Paul Jones. “The exposure and experience our students gain helps them determine if they are pursuing the right field for them. We are pleased to be investing in the Future of Bermuda.”
“Our summer student programme provides students with workplace exposure in their field of interest,” says Mr Steede. “It is structured to ensure students are suitably challenged and have a real opportunity to gain insight into the areas they are placed. Our ultimate goal is that they excel in their studies, gain valuable experience, then return to work with us at BHB.”
The spokesperson said, “Students interested in becoming summer students at BHB should look for application notices in late December 2026. The deadline to apply is always the last day of February, the summer student 2027 deadline is Sunday 28 February.”
