$150K Essent Donation Assists College Classroom

The Bermuda College Foundation unveiled a newly modernized classroom at Bermuda College, funded by a $150,000 donation from Essent Reinsurance Ltd.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda College Foundation [the Foundation] is proud to announce the completion of a newly modernised, state-of-the-art classroom at Bermuda College, made possible through a generous $150,000 donation from Essent Reinsurance Ltd. [Essent Re].

“This newly transformed classroom is part of the Foundation’s ongoing classroom modernisation initiative and serves students across a range of academic programmes. More than a physical upgrade, the space has been designed to reflect the realities of today’s technology-driven workforce and to ensure that Bermuda College students are confident, capable, and comfortable using the tools they will encounter in their professional careers.

“The renovation project, led by Cleun Gaiton, Bermuda College’s Director of Facilities, and undertaken by HELP Bda, included a full electrical upgrade, installation of energy-efficient LED lighting, removal of outdated ductwork and insulation, new HVAC controls, new flooring, ceiling tiles, and a fresh coat of paint. The result is a modern, comfortable, and cutting-edge learning environment equipped with:

  • An 86” wall-mounted display
  • Wired and wireless video connectivity via secure Crestron Air Media
  • Flexible display options for single or multiple video sources
  • Ceiling-mounted speakers and wireless microphones for enhanced audio
  • Connectivity to the Athene Lecture Theatre for overflow sessions
  • Full hybrid learning capabilities, enabling remote participation when needed
  • New, flexible furniture designed to support collaborative learning

“This partnership with Essent Re reflects a shared commitment to student success and opportunity,” said Kerry Judd, Executive Director of Bermuda College Foundation. “Their support goes far beyond infrastructure. By investing in modernised learning environments, Essent Re is ensuring that Bermuda College students are not only learning with current technology but are comfortable and confident using it—so they can transition seamlessly into the workforce, regardless of their chosen field.”

The spokesperson said, “This latest gift builds on Essent Re’s ongoing commitment to education in Bermuda. Since 2020, the company has contributed $100,000 in scholarship funding, in partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, to support equitable access to quality tertiary education for Bermuda College students.”
