Comedy Cup Match Event To Benefit Charities
An improv comedy showdown featuring two rival teams will take the stage at BUEI this Friday [July 17] and Saturday [July 18] as the annual Comedy Cup Match raises funds for Family Centre and BUEI.
A spokesperson said, “This weekend, fierce rivalry will be a laughing matter. Two teams will face off in the improv Comedy Cup Match, to be held at BUEI this Friday and Saturday, 17 and 18 July.
“The teams are St Gorgeous and Stunnerset, captained by Julia Pitt and Toby Butterfield, respectively. Each team comprises four players. There are no ‘colts’ this year; all the players have appeared in at least one prior Comedy Cup Match.
“In contrast, the umpire for the event is a first-timer, popular stage veteran Alan Brooks.”
Mr. Brooks said, “I’ve been in the audience for the prior Comedy Cup Matches and had a blast. This time, I aim to add to the fun as the Umpire.”
Producer Alan Gilbertson said, “The umpire welcomes the audience and encourages them to make noise to support their favourite team. He also explains the game format and keeps the score.”
The spokesperson said, “The way it works is that the two teams will alternate in playing improv games. The teams can’t rehearse the games beforehand, because the audience will be invited to call out critical details such as the relationship between the cast members involved in a game. After a team has played a game, the Umpire will assess the volume of the audience applause and decide what score the team has earned. At the end of the evening, the team with the highest cumulative score is the winner.”
Mr. Gilbertson said, “The real winner is the charities! The teams and the Umpire donate their time to help raise as much money as possible.”
The spokesperson said, “The Comedy Cup Match is a fundraiser for Family Centre and BUEI. All net ticket proceeds will go to the two charities. Family Centre will also earn the proceeds from the sale of drinks and snacks. Thanks to the generosity of Discovery Wines & Spirits and Butterfield & Vallis, 100% of the revenue from the pre-show drinks and snacks will benefit Family Centre. The Harbourfront Restaurant is also offering a 15% discount to diners who eat there before the shows.
“Tickets are on sale at bdatix.bm at $30 each. The shows will start at 8 pm, with drinks and snacks on sale from 7 pm in the BUEI lobby.”
