Cricket: Warwick Workmen’s Club Defeat PHC
Warwick Workmen’s Club claimed a 139-run victory over PHC in the first round of the Western County Cup.
After being put in to bat, Warwick posted 328-7 in its 50 overs before dismissing PHC for 189 in 41.4 overs.
Kamau Leverock led the batting performance for the holders, scoring 101 runs off 79 balls, including five boundaries and eight sixes. Following his dismissal, Ajani Lee scored an unbeaten 52 off 51 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes, to push Warwick past the 300-run mark.
PHC bowler Saje Carter finished with figures of 4-69 from his maximum 10 overs.
In reply, PHC failed to reach the required run rate. Jan Nel provided the primary resistance for the challengers, scoring 81 runs off 78 balls with four boundaries and five sixes.
Leverock also led the Warwick bowling attack, taking 3-52 from his 10 overs to restrict the PHC middle order and secure the win for the defending champions.
