Brangman Named Sportsmanship Award Winner
The Bermuda Friendly Societies Association will honour Somerset Cricket Club’s Derrick Brangman with its 23rd Annual Sportsmanship Award, while also recognizing the inaugural Colts Cup Match sportsmanship honourees on August 20.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Friendly Societies Association will proudly present the 23rd Annual Sportsmanship Award to Derrick Brangman of the Somerset Cricket Club on Thursday, August 20th, at 7:00 PM at the Alexandrina Lodge Hall located at No. 75 Court Street in Hamilton.
“The annual award recognizes the character, composure, leadership, and respect demonstrated during Cup Match, reminding us that how the game is played matters just as much as the result.
“Brangman was selected following a recommendation from the Bermuda Umpires Association, whose officials observed his consistent sportsmanship throughout this year’s Classic. His interactions with teammates, calm demeanour under pressure, and respect for the spirit of the game distinguished him as a worthy recipient.
“This year, the Association is also pleased to expand the award by recognizing sportsmanship at the junior level. For the first time, one player from each side contesting the Annual Colts Cup Match will be honoured alongside the senior Cup Match recipient. The inaugural Colts honourees are Callum MacFarlane of Somerset Cricket Club and Logan Jones of St. George’s Cricket Club, selected by their respective coaches following this year’s Colts Cup Match.
“As an organization rooted in Purity, Friendship, Love, and Truth, the Bermuda Friendly Societies Association believes in recognizing conduct that strengthens our people and preserves our traditions. The award also serves as a reminder of what Cup Match has represented across generations, calling on us to meet challenges with grace, discipline, and a commitment to something greater than ourselves.
“This year’s event will feature Glenn Blakeney as the Awards Speaker, with Bermuda sporting legend Clyde Best serving as Presenter. The public is invited to join us as we honour Derrick Brangman, recognize the inaugural Colt honourees, and celebrate the values that continue to make Cup Match special.”
