Community Events Aim To Promote “Renewal”
A number of upcoming community events are aiming to promote “togetherness and renewal.”
A spokesperson said, “The mid-summer vacation offers the best opportunity for togetherness and renewal.
“From August 1st – Emancipation Day – we are reminded by Bob Marley to ‘emancipate our minds.’ A call for us to renew and refocus ourselves towards uplifting humanity.
“Imagine Bermuda, the Department of Education, and other stakeholders are collaborating during this renewal period to bring opportunities that promote the motto ‘We are Always Learning.’
Wednesday, August 12th
“Gather the family to enjoy sky-watching, whether in person on the widest possible screen or through virtual platforms, e.g. Virtual Telescope Project. View the solar system:
“In the hour before Wednesday’s sunrise is the ‘parade of planets, where six of our neighbours – with Mars and Saturn most visible – move from the eastern horizon across the darkened sky.
“While not visible in Bermuda, during Wednesday there will be a total eclipse of the sun. It will darken Greenland and parts of Europe – especially northern Spain, this year’s World Cup champions.
“The late night show on Wednesday, known as the Perseids meteor shower, will be visible starting around 10.30pm for a number of hours.
“August 12th offers a serendipitous new moon, an exceptionally dark time when even the smallest light stands out. In these challenging times – with cycles of violence and other challenges at home and abroad – we are all called to let our light shine.
Saturday, August 15th
“Gather with others at the Bermuda National Library from 6 – 7.30pm to enjoy a free emancipation month community conversation on the topic of reparations. Can there be emancipation without the repair that leads to renewal and refocus?
“Under the theme of ‘Always Learning,’ come out and join the conversation with Glenn Fubler and Dr. Llewellyn Simmons and share your thoughts. What could the reparations conversation mean for Bermuda and the future for our young people?
